Joe Orton: 1933 - 1967

John Kingsley Orton was born in Leicester in 1933 and from the age of two, lived on the Saffron Lane council estate.

In his short but prolific career, Joe Orton amused audiences with his scandalous black comedies. His published work amounted to three stage plays, four short plays for radio and television, one film script, one posthumously published novel and ‘The Orton Diaries’, a frank, no holds barred account of his life between December 1966 to August 1967.
