The Cultural Quarter Audio Trail offers an opportunity to explore this historically significant area of Leicester city centre. The artists, Watch-This-Space, combine historical research, interviews with local people, original writing and a lush soundscape, to present the past, present and future of Leicester's blossoming Cultural Quarter.

 

Children's Trail: Jo Dacombe in Leicester's Cultural Quarter

The Children's Trail has been created by Leicester based artist Jo Dacombe to surprise children and other pedestrians. The art works appear as ghostly objects from the past in locations in the streets around the Cultural Quarter. The trail, relating to hidden histories of the St. George's area, can be used as an educational resource.

 

Musica: Greyworld in Leicester's Cultural Quarter

Created by Greyworld artists, Musica is an interactive installation that transforms Orton Square into a dynamic and interactive sonic playground. As people pass through the space, Musica columns respond directly to their motion and spin gently, playing unique fragments of sound. A matrix of lights, embedded within the columns, score the music with a series of luminous notes.

The purpose of the interactive Leicester Lights is to define and interpret the 'journey' between the Cultural Quarter, Halford Street, to the Peepul Centre, Orchardson Avenue. The aim is to make the route more enjoyable and easier to follow. Using clever technology, the light sculptures glow like jewels to mark the route. They enhance the experience and everyday use of the street and public spaces. Movement-activated sensors pick up colours of moving objects and are translated into a changing colour light sequence.

Low-Brow-Trash present Extended Play, a fun and playful new media artwork, specifically created to celebrate cultural and artistic pastimes, both past and present. Designed to be viewed at night using state of the art equipment, the area is illuminated with moving images which dance over the pavement and buildings, signposting the way to Curve and Phoenix Square, creating an ever changing backdrop.
