Equality and Diversity

Equality is a performance issue. Unless Leicester Partnership achieves the outcomes set out in One Leicester, it will not be able to reduce inequalities in the city.

The paper 'Embedding equalities in partnership practice' sets out how the Stronger Communities Partnership proposes to embed equalities within Partnership practice.

Having the right information is crucial in order for us to know that we are doing the right things in achieving the outcomes we want for our residents. The paper sets out what information we need to have.

Equalities also needs to be an integral part of our commissioning work. Commissioning is ‘the means to secure the best use of resources and deliver positive outcomes that meet the needs of citizens, communities and service users in Leicester’. The paper sets out how equalities is embedded within the Partnership’s commissioning cycle.

Finally, the new Government’s Budget and Comprehensive Spending Review proposals will have a fundamental impact on the city. In order to understand what it is likely to be, an Equality Impact Assessment of the Comprehensive Spending Review’s impact on Leicester residents has been undertaken. The Equality Impact Assessment sets out the following information:

  • The likely impact of the Comprehensive Spending Review’s welfare reform proposals on residents in receipt of income and housing benefits, and their potential knock-on effects.
  • Performance management information setting out available analysis of related need and service take up trends in the city.
  • Individual equality impact assessments of the Comprehensive Spending Review measures likely to have adverse effects on Leicester residents.
