New Arrivals

Leicester’s history of migration has shaped the city we have today and has brought us many benefits – social, cultural and economic. But in the shorter term, new arrivals to our city can face challenges and difficulties, and in turn there can be transitional pressures in local communities, and problems for local services in seeking to adjust what they provide to a changing population.

Our approach to supporting new arrivals in Leicester is to:

Understand the change that is taking place in our communities – planning for the future, anticipating shifts in migration patterns;

Help services to respond to changes and different needs; and

Support community cohesion – helping new migrants form their own communities, build bridges with other communities in the city and break down the misconceptions that can cause tension.
