Invitations to people of Leicester to join extended Culture Partnership Board

22nd July 2011

Your Chance to Join Leicester's Culture Partnership Board

Leicester’s Culture Partnership Board is to expand its membership to ensure that all aspects of arts and culture are represented.

The Culture Partnership Board is now inviting expressions of interest from individuals who believe that they have a contribution to make to the crucial role that arts and culture play in the lives of the citizens of Leicester and the United Kingdom.

The new Culture Partnership Board was established in November 2010 with the express purpose of providing strategic leadership to the development and delivery of a City Cultural Strategy for Leicester.

The members of the board act as champions for culture in Leicester, provide strategic leadership to facilitate social and economic regeneration through culture, and help to ensure ‘joined-up’ and equitable delivery of cultural provision.

Professor Dominic Shellard, Vice Chancellor of De Montfort University and Chair of the Culture Partnership Board said:

“Following the City Mayor Culture Debate, it is obvious that there is an exceptionally high level of interest in the development of a new City Cultural Strategy for Leicester. In response to this interest, the Culture Partnership Board has agreed to expand its membership to ensure that all aspects of culture are more fully represented. The refreshed board will be operational by September this year and ready to start a process of wide-ranging consultation on the development of a new cultural strategy”.

Expressions of interest would be welcome from individuals associated with the arts, creative industries, museums, galleries and archives, libraries, tourism, play, festivals and events, digital and new technology and youth culture and in particular from individuals associated with the visual arts (including craft and fashion), museums, galleries and archives (including built heritage and archaeology), libraries, literature (including writing and publishing) and youth culture where there is a current gap in terms of knowledge and expertise.

Interested applicants will be asked to demonstrate how they meet set criteria and will be asked to confirm that they are willing to sign up to the Nolan Seven Principles of Public Life – selflessness, integrity, objectivity, accountability, openness, honesty and leadership.

Interested parties should email requesting an information pack: cultural-strategy@leicester.gov.uk

The deadline for written applications is 12noon on Friday 12th August.
